R.E.P.O. Solo Advanced Guide: Surviving Alone

Solo play in R.E.P.O. is a completely different experience from multiplayer. Without teammates to cover you, revive you, or help carry heavy items, every decision carries more weight. This guide covers advanced solo strategies for experienced players.

Solo Survival Fundamentals

Health Management

  • Priority Purchase: At least 1 Health Upgrade (gives 120 HP instead of 100)
  • With 120 HP, you can survive one hit from Huntsman, Robe, or Clown—giving you a second chance
  • Always carry 1 Small Health Pack (25 HP) for emergency mid-run healing
  • Never drop below 50 HP in dangerous areas

Stamina Economy

  • Solo players do everything: fighting, carrying, running
  • Minimum: 2 Stamina Upgrades (60 total stamina)
  • Recommended: 3-4 Stamina Upgrades for late-game levels
  • Crouch Rest Upgrade is essential for solo players to recover stamina while hiding

The Tumble Launch Defense

  • Single Tumble Launch upgrade lets you reliably knock down small monsters
  • Costs 5 HP per use, but creates escape windows
  • Technique: Tumble into monster → immediately grab it while airborne → slam into ground for extended stun
  • Practice this until it's muscle memory

Solo Item Management

C.A.R.T. Priority

  • Your C.A.R.T. is more vulnerable without teammates to protect it
  • Place it in rooms with only one entrance, not hallways
  • Never leave valuables on the ground near active monsters
  • Use the Pocket C.A.R.T. as a portable emergency container

Valuable Selection

Solo players must be more selective:

Size Solo Viable? Notes
Tiny Yes Easy, high value-to-weight ratio
Small Yes Manageable alone
Medium Yes Core of solo economy
Big Difficult Requires positioning and clear path
Wide Very Hard Need Feather Drone or strength upgrades
Tall Hard Awkward but possible with practice
Very Tall Extremely Hard Usually skip unless you have Zero Gravity Drone

Solo Trap Handling

  • Trap items are MORE dangerous solo because you have no cover
  • Get trap items into C.A.R.T. immediately
  • Skip low-value traps entirely (Toy Monkey, Radio)
  • Only attempt high-value traps (Grandfather Clock, Television) with Indestructible Drone

Solo Combat Doctrine

The Golden Rule: Avoid > Fight

In solo play, avoiding monsters is almost always better than fighting them. Combat takes time, risks damage, and uses resources. Every second spent fighting is a second not extracting.

When Solo Fighting IS Worth It

  • Monster is directly blocking your path to extraction
  • Monster has an Enemy Valuable (orb) and you want the extra money
  • You have perfect positioning (monster near pit, you have high ground)
  • You have a full-health buffer and reliable stun weapon

Solo Weapon Loadout

  • Primary: Prodzap ($22K-$30K) - stuns all monsters, 16 charges, works on everything
  • Secondary: Boltzap ($14K-$18K) - 1.5 second stun on all monsters, 20 charges, cheap
  • Emergency: Stun Grenade ($2K) - instant 15-second stun, throwable, always carry 1-2
  • Melee: Inflatable Hammer ($8K-$12K) - 5% chance of 250 explosion damage, cheap gamble

Monster Evasion Techniques

  • Crouch Walking: Makes no noise. Essential for passing monsters in narrow hallways
  • Line of Sight Breaking: Even a table leg blocks monster vision. Use furniture as cover
  • Room Looping: Enter a room, exit through another door, monster pathing loses you
  • The "Wait It Out": Monsters have idle timers. Hide and wait for them to leave

Solo Extraction Strategy

The "Pre-Activate" Method

  1. Locate all extraction points before moving valuables
  2. Plan your route: start with the extraction point furthest from the truck
  3. Move valuables near each extraction point but DO NOT activate
  4. When all valuables are positioned, activate extraction points in sequence
  5. This minimizes time spent exposed during active extraction

The "Single Item Focus"

Rather than collecting many small items, focus on 1-2 high-value items per level:

  • Level 1-5: Target Medium items ($2K-$5K)
  • Level 6-10: Target Big+ items ($5K-$12K)
  • Level 11+: Target the single most valuable item and extract immediately

Solo Economy

Solo item prices are higher (multiplier is 1.0 for solo vs 0.5 for 6 players):

  • Energy Crystals cost more per charge
  • Upgrades are more expensive
  • This means solo players need to be MORE efficient, not less

Break-even target: Solo players need to extract approximately 2x the value per item to match team efficiency

Advanced Solo Techniques

The "Death Bait"

  • If you die, your head drops where you fell
  • Monsters ignore heads (mostly)
  • You can use your own death head as a lure: place it in a room to draw monster attention, then sneak past
  • Obviously, this is a last-resort tactic

The "Item Bridge"

  • Use items to create bridges across gaps
  • Place items in a line, then walk across them
  • The Phase Bridge ($18K-$20K) is purpose-built for this

The "Monster Timer Manipulation"

  • Every time you make noise, you reduce monster respawn timers by 5 seconds
  • In solo play, be extra careful with noise to avoid rapid respawns
  • Silent items are your friends; noisy items (traps) are your enemies

Solo Level-Specific Tips

Headman Manor (Solo)

  • Lots of rooms with single entrances = easy to block and hide
  • Antique valuables are often fragile = use Indestructible Drone
  • Clown Doll spawns here = be careful with nose grabs

McJannek Station (Solo)

  • Pits everywhere = easiest level for pit kills
  • Lava pits destroy items = be extra careful carrying valuables
  • Science fiction items = higher value, higher risk

Museum of Human Art (Solo)

  • Open floor plan = harder to hide from monsters
  • Art items are often trap items (Museum Boombox)
  • Higher average value = worth the risk if you're careful

Swiftbroom Academy (Solo)

  • Multi-level layout = Extra Jump and Tumble Wings are essential
  • Magic items = high value but many are traps (Chomp Book, Hourglass)
  • Vertical extraction = hardest solo level, consider skipping some items

Solo Mindset

Solo R.E.P.O. is about patience, planning, and perfection. You don't have the safety net of teammates, but you also don't have to share loot or worry about friendly fire. Every successful solo extraction is a true mastery of the game's mechanics.

Remember: In solo play, discretion is the better part of valor. Live to extract another day.
