R.E.P.O. Extraction Strategies

Extraction is where runs are won or lost. You can have $50,000 worth of items, but if you don't extract them, they mean nothing. This guide covers everything about getting out alive with your loot.

Understanding Extraction Points

Types of Extraction Points

Type Color Behavior Strategy
Active Blue Ready to accept items Extract immediately when safe
Inactive Orange Needs to be activated Find the activation switch nearby
Single Blue Only accepts one item at a time Queue up and extract one by one
Multiple Blue Accepts multiple items simultaneously Best for team hauls
Final Special Appears when quota is met Extracts entire team at once

How to Activate Inactive Extraction Points

Inactive extractions usually have an activation switch nearby. Look for:

  • Lever switches on walls near the extraction zone
  • Button panels that require all players to stand on them
  • Item deposits where you need to place a specific item to activate
  • Power boxes that need to be repaired or powered on

Pro Tip: The Scout player should identify and activate extractions early in the run, before carrying any items.

The Extraction Timeline

Phase 1: Pre-Extraction (5 minutes before)

  • Identify the closest active extraction point
  • Stage items near the extraction zone (within 1-2 rooms)
  • Clear any monsters in the extraction area using stuns or lures
  • Have the Support player set up the C.A.R.T. nearby if available

Phase 2: The Haul (2-3 minutes)

  • Move items from staging area to extraction zone
  • Never carry more than you can sprint with - a dead player drops everything
  • Team members should move in a protective formation around the carrier
  • If a monster appears, the carrier drops their item and runs to extraction while teammates distract

Phase 3: The Drop (30 seconds)

  • Items must be placed inside the extraction zone (the blue glowing area)
  • Items dropped outside the zone are NOT extracted
  • The extraction zone has a radius - stand in the center and drop items around you
  • Once an item is in the zone, it's safe - even if you die afterward

Phase 4: The Exit (10 seconds)

  • Stand in the extraction zone for 3 seconds to trigger extraction
  • All players in the zone will be extracted together
  • If the Final extraction is active, the entire team is extracted regardless of position
  • You can extract without items - if things go wrong, save yourself

Extraction Strategies by Situation

Situation 1: Clean Extraction (No Monsters Nearby)

Best case scenario.

  1. Walk to extraction calmly - no need to sprint and waste stamina
  2. Drop items in the center of the zone
  3. Stand still for 3 seconds
  4. Done. Easy.

Situation 2: Monster in Pursuit

Most common situation.

  1. Sprint to extraction - don't look back
  2. Drop items in the zone while running - you don't need to stop to drop
  3. Jump into the zone if it's on a raised platform - monsters can't climb
  4. If the monster is right behind you, stun it with a melee weapon or throw a distraction item
  5. Extract even if you only have some items - partial extraction is better than death

Situation 3: Extraction is Blocked by a Monster

The monster is literally standing in the extraction zone.

Option A: Lure it away

  • Throw a heavy object in the opposite direction
  • The monster will investigate the sound
  • Run to extraction while it's distracted
  • You have 3-5 seconds

Option B: Stun and extract

  • Hit it with a melee weapon (stuns for 2-4 seconds)
  • Sprint past it into the zone
  • Drop items and extract immediately
  • Risky but effective if your timing is perfect

Option C: Find another extraction

  • If there are multiple extractions, sometimes it's safer to go to a different one
  • Use your map to check for other active extractions
  • Only do this if the alternative is closer than the time it takes to lure the monster

Situation 4: Team Member is Downed

Critical decision point.

Option A: Revive and extract

  • If the downed player is close to extraction and the area is relatively safe, revive them
  • Revive takes 3 seconds and makes noise - other monsters may be attracted
  • Only do this if you have 5+ seconds of safety

Option B: Extract without them

  • If the area is swarming with monsters, extract your items and leave
  • The downed player loses their items but the team keeps the extracted ones
  • This is the correct call in most emergency situations

Option C: The Sacrifice Play

  • One player stays behind to distract monsters while the rest extract
  • The sacrificial player doesn't extract but saves the team's haul
  • Heroic but costly

The "Staging" Strategy (Advanced)

This is the most effective extraction strategy for high-value runs.

Step 1: Identify the Route (2 minutes)

  • Scout the path from the high-value items to the extraction
  • Note every monster position and patrol pattern
  • Identify safe spots along the route where you can stop and rest

Step 2: Stage Items (3 minutes)

  • Carry items one by one to a safe staging area near extraction
  • The staging area should be a room with only one entrance (easy to defend)
  • Never stage more than 3 items in one location - if monsters find it, you lose everything
  • Use the C.A.R.T. for the final 50 meters to extraction

Step 3: The Final Push (1 minute)

  • When all items are staged, do a final monster check
  • Move all items from staging to extraction in one coordinated push
  • The team moves as a convoy - front scout, middle carriers, rear guard
  • Once items are in the zone, extract immediately

Why This Works

  • Staging reduces the risk of losing everything to one monster encounter
  • You can abort at any point and only lose the items currently being carried
  • It allows you to rest and recover stamina between carries
  • Teams using this method average 30% higher extraction values

The Quota System Explained

Each location has a minimum value quota you must meet to "complete" the run. Meeting the quota unlocks the Final extraction.

Location Tier Quota Avg Items Needed (Solo) Avg Items Needed (Team)
Tier 1 $5,000 2-3 small items 1-2 medium items
Tier 2 $10,000 3-4 medium items 2-3 medium items
Tier 3 $20,000 5-6 mixed items 4-5 medium items
Tier 4 $35,000 8-10 mixed items 6-8 mixed items

What Happens If You Don't Meet Quota?

  • You still keep whatever items you extracted
  • You don't unlock the Final extraction (must use normal extractions)
  • You get less money for the run
  • The next run's quota is adjusted based on your performance

What Happens If You Exceed Quota by a Lot?

  • Bonus money (usually 10-20% extra)
  • Better shop items available next run
  • Progress toward unlocking new locations
  • Achievement progress if applicable

Extraction Timing Rules

When to Extract Early (Before Quota)

  • You're down to your last health point
  • Multiple monsters are in pursuit
  • Your teammate is downed and you can't revive them safely
  • You've found a few high-value items that meet your personal risk threshold
  • You're running low on stamina and can't escape effectively

When to Stay and Push for More

  • You have full health and plenty of stamina
  • The area is relatively clear of monsters
  • You've identified several more high-value items nearby
  • Your team is coordinated and has healing items
  • You're within $5,000 of the quota

The 80% Rule

When you've reached 80% of the quota, start heading toward extraction. The remaining 20% isn't worth the risk for most players.

FAQ

Can you extract items without extracting yourself? No. You must stand in the extraction zone for 3 seconds to extract both yourself and your items.

What happens to items you don't extract? They're lost. The run ends and you only keep the extracted items' value.

Can monsters enter extraction zones? No. Extraction zones are safe spaces - monsters cannot enter them. However, they can stand right outside and attack you as you enter.

Can you extract while carrying a monster? No. If a monster is grabbed (using the physics tool), you must drop it before extracting.

Does the Final extraction require all players to be in the zone? Yes. The Final extraction only activates when all living players are in the zone. If someone is downed, you must revive them or leave them behind.

Summary

Extraction is the most important skill in R.E.P.O. A player who extracts $10,000 consistently is worth more than a player who finds $50,000 but dies every other run. Learn when to be greedy and when to be safe. Stage your items when possible. And never, ever risk your life for the last $2,000.
